Centre of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) Research Grant 

Good News! The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science has recently been awarded the CAE Research Grant by the Society of Actuaries (US). Totalling USD281,490, the CAE Research Grant will be used to conduct a 3-year project on the actuarial study of dependent risks.

Being one of the only two universities in Asia that have been designated as a Centre of Actuarial Excellence by the Society of Actuaries (US) amongst 24 other universities in the world, HKU is the first and the only one in Asia being awarded the CAE Research Grant to date.     TOS1 Long Service Awards 

    The Long Service Award Presentation Ceremony for staff on Terms of Service I was held on Monday, March 17, 2014 in Loke Yew Hall, officiated by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Lap-Chee Tsui.

    QS World University Ranking. For the subject of Statistics, HKU was ranked 15th worldwide in 2013. 

    The QS World University Ranking by Subject has released the latest ranking for 2014. This year, Statistics is the only science subject from HKU that is ranked in the top 20 internationally. For more details, please visit here.

    Prof SAW Swee-Hock on receiving the Honorary University Fellowships (HUF) 2013 in recognition of his tremendous contributions to the University and the community 

    Warmest congratulations to Professor SAW Swee-Hock on receiving the Honorary University Fellowships (HUF) 2013 in recognition of his tremendous contributions to the University and the community.

    As the DepartmentíŽs founding Chair from 1969-1971, Professor Saw has been its long time friend and patron. Professor Saw helped establish the Saw Gold Medal in Statistics in 1971, the Saw Swee Hock Statistics Scholarship in 2005, and the Saw Swee Hock Visiting Professorship in Statistics in 2008. The Saw Gold Medal still continues after more than 40 years. Professor Saw has always endeavoured to promote the development of Statistics not only at this University but also in his native country Singapore and worldwide.

    Mr. Patrick Sun-Cheong Poon 

    Further to the establishment of the endowed Patrick S C Poon Professorship in Statistics and Actuarial Science, Mr Patrick Sun-Cheong Poon has made recurrent donation to continue the Patrick Poon Lecture Series in Actuarial Science, which was established in 2004.

    The Department is also deeply grateful to Mr Poon for his great generosity in making donation to continue the Patrick S C Poon Scholarship in Actuarial Science, which awards up to ten Actuarial Science freshmen. In 2012, Mr Poon pledged another donation to the University of Hong Kong for the establishment of Patrick S C Poon Scholarship in Statistics and Risk Management, which awards up to four outstanding undergraduates who pursue a first Major in Statistics and/or Risk Management.
