Dr Guosheng Yin who has been named a fellow of the ASA.

Congratulations to Dr Guosheng Yin who has been named a fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the nation's preeminent professional statistical society.

Dr Yin was honored for outstanding methodological and collaborative research contributions to clinical trial design, survival analysis and Bayesian statistical methods; for exemplary service to the profession and the ASA.

The ASA is the world’s largest community of statisticians and the second-oldest continuously operating professional society in US.

The Department now has 3 ASA fellows.

Congratulations to Prof K. Lam and Dr Philip Yu for their new book (計出你的投資勝算). The book includes a series of interesting and accessible articles on investment and related statistical applications, previously written by Prof Lam and Dr Yu and some other writers in the Hong Kong Economic Journal (信報).

QS World University Ranking. For the subject of Statistics, HKU was ranked 15th worldwide in 2013.

The QS World University Ranking by Subject has released the latest ranking for 2013. For the subject of Statistics, HKU has gone from strength to strength and has achieved a record high of 15th this year since the inception of the ranking in 2011. For more details, please visit here.

Further to the establishment of the endowed Patrick S C Poon Professorship in Statistics and Actuarial Science, Mr Patrick Sun-Cheong Poon has made recurrent donation to continue the Patrick Poon Lecture Series in Actuarial Science, which was established in 2004.

The Department is also deeply grateful to Mr Poon for his great generosity in making donation to continue the Patrick S C Poon Scholarship in Actuarial Science, which awards up to ten Actuarial Science freshmen. In 2012, Mr Poon pledged another donation to the University of Hong Kong for the establishment of Patrick S C Poon Scholarship in Statistics and Risk Management, which awards up to four outstanding undergraduates who pursue a first Major in Statistics and/or Risk Management. Professor Hans U. Gerber has just been honoured with the degree Doctor of Mathematics honoris causa at the University of Waterloo, Canada.
