It has come to the notice of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) that suspicious emails are being sent to invite registrations for the "2017 International Conference on Economics, Statistics, Management Science (ESMS2017)" claiming a professor of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, Faculty of Science, as one of the General Chairs of the organising committee. The University has reasons to suspect that the aforesaid conference is a fraud.
The case has been reported to the police.
The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science hereby declares that:
Professor Wai Keung LI (Head of Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science, the University of Hong Kong) has NOT authorized his name or his photo to be used in conjunction with the aforesaid conference.
Professor Wai Keung LI and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science have NOT involved in the aforesaid conference in any way or whatsoever. Professor Wai Keung LI and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science have NEVER sent any emails with regard to the aforesaid conference.
Professor Wai Keung LI and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science have NOT authorized any third parties to either organise the aforesaid conference or collect money on behalf of them.
Anyone who has received a fraudulent email or paid any fees to the aforesaid conference should report it immediately to the responsible authorities in his/her country.
Professor Wai Keung LI and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science disclaim all responsibility with respect to any expense, loss, and/or damage of any kind, which might have occurred in connection with any fraudulent conferences and emails that Professor Wai Keung LI and the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science have no control over.
